U.S. authorities and Health Canada have issued warnings regarding Incivek, a drug made by Massachusetts pharmaceutical company Vertex Inc. Incivek, or teleprevir, is a drug taken in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin by adult patients with genotype 1 chronic Hepatitis C.
Some patients have developed serious skin reactions after taking Incivek, and some have died. Our Alvin, TX drug injury lawyers emphasize that progressive rashes and systemic symptoms have turned fatal when patients kept using the drug. Incivek was approved for use in 2011. In December, the U.S. FDA had issued warnings due to two deaths and 112 serious skin reactions to the drug.
The serious skin reactions include: Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, Stevens Johnson Syndrome, and Drug Reaction with Esinophilia and Systemic Symptoms. Incivek, though the subject of serious warnings, has not been pulled from the market. It has been shown to dramatically lower the treatment time and cost for patients with Hepatitis C, which in turn minimizes the impact of associated side effects like anemia and rashes.

The Pearland surgical mesh injury attorneys at Denena Points, PC emphasize that implantation of surgical mesh to repair pelvic organ prolapse (POP) has caused thousands of women to suffer serious side effects that include:
But our Pearland surgical mesh injury attorneys point out that even when women suffer serious side effects and injuries from the vaginal mesh “repair,” the mesh implant usually can’t be removed. The injured women must undergo series of additional procedures to try and correct the injuries from the initial implantation of surgical mesh.
The vaginal mesh implants work by forming a matrix that encourages the woman’s own tissue to grow through and around the mesh. This can help anchor the mesh in place and hold up the pelvic organs. It can also cause the mesh and surrounding tissue to contract painfully, extrude through the vagina, and intrude into organs like the bladder.
The U.S. FDA has warned that complications from vaginal mesh implants are NOT rare and thatimplantation of surgical mesh for POP presents more serious patient risks than traditional, non-mesh repairs. The FDA warning suggested that physicians seek alternatives to surgical mesh implantations whenever possible.

General public perception has long regarded the motorcyclist as a rebel and a criminal inclined to belong to groups of outlaw gangs. Media and some motorcycle clubs have only sought to reinforce this image. And since bikers represent only about 3% of the drivers out on our roads, our Lake Jackson motorcycle injury attorneys point out that they lack the numbers and influence to change that perception.
Bikers suffer disproportionately from fatal vehicle accidents
Motorcyclists represent between 10% and 14% of the total of fatal traffic accidents on average. Yet when negligent drivers of other vehicles have caused these fatal accidents, victims’ families often find they can’t overcome negative public perceptions to win a fair financial recovery on their accident claim.
Negative stereotypes regarding bikers and the accident statistics that reinforce them
U.S. NHTSA motorcycle accident statistics tend to reinforce the negative stereotypes of motorcycle riders. They classify over half of all motorcycle accidents as single-vehicle accidents. The statistics also show that in about 25% of the wrecks, the motorcyclist crashed into a fixed object such as a tree, a parked car, or a light pole. 35% of bikers involved in fatal motorcycle accidents were speeding. 25% of the riders did not have a valid driver’s license. And our Lake Jackson motorcycle injury attorneys note that up to 64% of the motorcyclists that died in fatal wrecks were intoxicated.
The new face of the Texas motorcyclist is not what you might expect
The two largest groups of new bikers are: affluent, under 30 years old, and riding sleek and expensive Japanese Supersport bikes; OR: affluent, over 40, riding an expensive motorcycle such as a Ducati, and belonging to a weekend motorcycle club.
Public perceptions regarding who motorcyclists are may actually catch up with the new faces of the modern biker one of these days. But in the meantime, the Lake Jackson motorcycle injury attorneys at Denena Points, PC caution that you will still find that your own motorcycle accident injury claim could be destroyed by pre-conceived notions about who you are and how you ride unless you present an effective claim.

Headlines out of the United Kingdom yesterday described a horrific scene as a bridal party plummeted 12 feet to the ground when the balcony collapsed on the bridal suite at the Casa del Lago in Brighouse in western Yorkshire. A woman planning her upcoming nuptials was wanted to see if the bridal suite would be suitable for her plans. The bride-to-be and three of her friends had been escorted onto the balcony by the proud hotel owner who wanted to show them the newly refurbished balcony on the bridal suite.
When they stepped out on to the balcony, it collapsed, sending them 12 feet to the ground. The hotel owner suffered severe head injuries in the fall and received air transport to a hospital. The four women also sustained serious injuries and received ground transport to the hospital.
Who would be responsible for such a serious balcony collapse accident and the ensuing injuries?
Our balcony collapse attorneys mention that generally the hotel and its owner could be held liable in such a case. In the particular incident described in this article, you might have noticed that the balcony had been newly refurbished. While an accident investigation will be necessary to determine the precise causes of this particular balcony collapse, the sudden collapse so soon after refurbishment would seem to indicate shoddy workmanship and negligence on the part of those who did the refurbishing work. If so, then those who did the negligent work that led to the balcony collapse and resulting injuries would also be financially responsible for the damages they caused.
The news accounts don’t indicate how extensive the balcony renovation was or exactly what sort of work was done. Our balcony collapse attorneys point out that the use of nails in attaching a balcony to a building is one of the things that can lead to a sudden balcony collapse. Incorrect spacing of attachments and supports can also cause a collapse. And failing to attach the balcony to actual structural members of the hotel might cause a collapse.

Thursday night just after 8 p.m., a man crossed into a two-lane road under construction by walking out from between two orange barrels. The driver of an oncoming car at Aldine Mail Route Road and Reevestone Road apparently did not see the man and struck him. The pedestrian received transport to the hospital in critical condition.
Reports said he was fighting for his life. But charges seem unlikely in the case because the pedestrian stepped out in front of the car from between barrels that obscured his approach and in an area without a crosswalk. (Source: click2houston.com, 2/15/13) The hearts of our Houston personal injury lawyers go out to the injured pedestrian and his loved ones.

Maritime industry workers who work on the offshore oil rigs might be interested in a recent safety finding of the U.S. BSEE (Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement). The Bureau’s Offshore Regulatory Program is responsible for developing standards and regulations to enhance operational safety as well as environmental protection related to offshore exploration and development of oil and natural gas resources on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf.
The BSEE has found that zinc electroplated bolts manufactured by GE for use on rigs’ lower marine riser packages and wellhead connectors to connect the blowout preventers have been improperly heat-treated. Our Gulf Coast maritime injury lawyers note that lack of proper heat treatments makes the bolts vulnerable to stress corrosion cracking caused by hydrogen embrittlement. What this means is that offshore oil rigs that use these bolts are vulnerable to H-4 connector bolt failures and resulting discharge of oil and pollutants. And possible ignition and explosion of released discharges.
The BSEE has ordered that operations be suspended on all offshore oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico that use the bolts until they can be refurbished or replaced and then examined and certified as properly heat treated by an independent third party. The BSEE order has offshore drilling groups scrambling to comply in order to get production back in place. Diamond Offshore, for instance, has already stated that will replace the bolts on 30 of its platforms (two thirds of its fleet) and that the replacement operation will be complete within six weeks. Your safety is at risk when defective parts are used in manufacturing the rigs where you spend your working life. Our Gulf Coast maritime injury lawyers point out that recent years have seen some deadly explosions and fires from faulty equipment and operations out in the Gulf of Mexico.

Our Houston car recall lawyers note that Toyota has just issued two more recalls totaling over 1 million vehicles in the United States. The recalls relate to dangerous defects that could cause crashes and resulting injuries. The larger recall affects slightly over 887,000 GM Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Corolla, and Toyota Corolla Matrix vehicles from the 2003 and 2004 model years.
The source of the recall is a defect in integrated circuits used in the supplemental restraint system (SRS) circuits that could short out and overheat, damaging the circuits and causing the front airbags and seat belt pretensioners to inadvertently deploy.
Crashes and Injuries have resulted from the Inadvertent Airbag Deployments
Initially, Toyota had said that no accident or injuries had resulted from the defect. But the company has since admitted that it knows of at least two crashes from the inadvertent airbag deployment as well as 46 reports of airbag problems and 18 U.S. cases of abrasion injuries from the defect.
Toyota and GM said they would notify owners of the vehicles and that dealers would install free of charge a supplemental harness with an electrical filter between the airbag control module and the wire harness. Concerned owners of the Toyotas can reach the company at 1-800-331-4331 and Pontiac Vibe owners can call GM at 1-800-620-7668.
The Second Toyota Recall Results from a Defect in the Lexus IS
Our Houston car recall lawyers also mention Toyota’s other recall that involves a defect in the wiper arm nut of about 270,000 2006 through 2012 model year Lexus IS vehicles. The loose arm nut could cause the wipers to become inoperative if they have to push anything heavier than rain (such as snow) off the window, resulting in decreased visibility. Toyota says it knows of 25 incidents related to this defect. Lexus and Toyota dealers will repair the defect in affected vehicles for free.

U.S. agencies charged with traffic safety and consumer safety advocates want to see ESC (electronic Stability Control) technology in all cars and trucks on U.S. roads. The Pearland personal injury lawyers at Denena Points, PC understand their reason: ESC can help prevent rollovers, one of the most dangerous types of accidents and the one most likely to be fatal. All new passenger vehicles are required to have ESC technology, but many older cars and trucks still on the road do not have it.
Insurance companies are very interested in ESC technology and encourage its use in all vehicles. Insurance companies, after all, are the ones that get stuck paying the costs of needless accidents and serious injuries resulting from rollovers.
Studies by insurers and U.S. safety agencies reveal 4 important facts that may make you glad to have ESC technology in your next vehicle:
