Baby Matters told the Associated Press that it had gone out of business. And the company’s owner, Leslie Gudel, said that the company’s products were safe and that Baby Matters did not believe the CPSC complaint against its products had merit. The fatality statistics for 2011 are still being tabulated. For the years 2007 through 2009, there were an average of 114 deaths each year linked to baby nursery products. 89% of them were linked to infant carriers, car seats, baby bathing products, cribs, mattresses, cradles, and playpens.
