As Board Certified Personal Injury Trial Attorneys, Tony and I have been advocating for years that the current U.S. standard for underride protection on trucks is insufficient. In fact, the standard is deadly because no protection is in fact provided by the underride guards that are on the back of trailers. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety recently tested the U.S. standard against the Canadian standard and the result is a fail for the U.S. standard. It is time for the governement to revisit the standard and make it stronger so that drivers are actually given protection by the underride guards.
