TN Compounding Pharmacy Recalls Tainted Drug after Patients Infected

Compounding pharmacy Main Street Family Pharmacy of Tennessee is recalling its injectable anti-inflammatory drug MPA, methylprednisolone acetate. The U.S. FDA received complaints of seven people who had developed adverse reactions and/or infections after being injected with the tainted MPA from Main Street Family Pharmacy. Our Pearland, TX drug injury attorneys note that MPA is the same injectable drug that caused the deadly outbreak of fungal meningitis last fall.

The tainted MPA was shipped from the compounding pharmacy to clinics in 13 states. A rapidly evolving investigation conducted by several health agencies, including the Alabama Department of Public Health, is ongoing. Patients who’ve received the drug are asked to report any adverse effects and seek treatment immediately. (Source: 10tv.com, 5/24/13)
