Stretch of Highway 185 near Victoria, Texas Proves Particularly Deadly

Authorities say that the 52-mile stretch of Texas Highway 185 that leads between Victoria and Port O’Connor, Texas is particularly deadly. That short stretch of highway has claimed 11 lives in the past four years, including the three people killed on Monday. Local residents, workers, and authorities attribute the high fatality rate to heavy traffic from the local plants and factories, excessive speed, fatigued workers, and on occasion, dense fog. Our Alvin, TX accident attorneys note that worker fatigue has also been pinpointed as a factor in the sharp rise in fatal traffic accidents in the Eagle Ford Shale oil and gas development region of South Texas. Workers reportedly often work shifts of 20 hours or more before pulling their trucks onto the narrow rural highways. Driver fatigue sometimes causes them to veer over the centerlines of the narrow highways and crash. Click here to read more about the problem of worker fatigue in relation to an increasingly high fatality rate from traffic accidents in the Eagle Ford Shale.
