Texas truck crash attorneys note a tragic fatality from a fiery wreck in Travis County. Hernan Garcia-Segura, 24, ran a flashing red light at the intersection of the SH 130 service road near U.S. 183 and the Maha Loop in SE Travis County. Hernan Garcia smashed into a tanker truck full of gasoline and the tanker truck exploded.
Firefighters, troopers and emergency workers were at the scene of the wreck since about midnight on Wednesday. The mother of Hernan Garcia, Alicia Garcia-Segura, was in the passenger seat of the vehicle at the time of the wreck and got trapped in the car, crushed by the impact. Her son pulled her out of the wrecked car and placed her in the ditch near the wreck. Firefighters took her to a place of greater safety and began administering first aid as spilled fuel from the tanker truck approached the ditch. At last report, Ms. Garcia-Segura was in the hospital with a broken pelvis.
Witnesses could see a plume of smoke for miles after the fuel laden tanker truck exploded. The explosion and flames from the blaze burned the asphalt from the roadway all around the wreck. Our Texas truck crash attorneys note that very little of the tanker truck itself was left after the fatal, fiery explosion. Authorities found the body of the tanker truck driver, Royce Dedric Brooks, 41, in the wreckage.
Authorities believe that fuel from the tanker truck might have entered the storm drain system in the area, endangering local homeowners. Sheriff’s deputies from Travis County were informing local homeowners of the possible danger.
Spill damage assessment teams waited for DPS troopers and TxDOT workers to finish their accident investigations before beginning their own assessment of the damage to the storm water system. Our Texas truck crash attorneys mention that an Austin watershed spokesperson said that damage was expected to be minimal because the explosion happened so quickly and burned off the fuel very rapidly.
The service road at the site of the fiery wreck was closed for several hours as the roadway underwent repairs. News accounts of the incident did not specify whether alcohol might have been a factor in the crash or whether the driver who ran the red light will be charged with any violations.
The Texas truck crash attorneys at Denena & Points have the deepest sympathy for the Mr. Brooks, who so tragically lost his life because a driver heedlessly ran a flashing red light when he should have stopped. Our sympathies also go out to the mourning family and friends of Mr. Brooks and to Alicia Garcia-Segura who now suffers injuries in the hospital after the horrific, fiery wreck.
