Houston, TX Street Racer Loses Control of Car and Causes Fatal Accident on Eastex Freeway During Rush Hour
Houston, TX rush hour commuters on September 14, 2011 faced delays while all northbound lanes of the Eastex Freeway remained closed due to a fatal, multiple vehicle accident attributed to illegal street racing. 20-year-old Jesus Alberto Acosta faces charges of criminally negligent homicidein the death of 40-year-old motorcyclist David Novreske.
According to reports, Jesus Alberto Acosta was racing his gray Infiniti G35 against a black Chevrolet pickup truck or SUV. Witnesses said it appeared that the red Honda motorcycle driven by the victim might also have been engaged in the race. Around these heedless racers were Houston, TX rush hour drivers in vehicles apparently not engaged in the race. They included a silver Nissan pickup truck and a red Ford pickup truck.
During the race, Jesus Alberto Acosta struck the silver Nissan in the left lane with his gray Infiniti G35. He then swerved to the right and struck the red Ford pickup. Then Jesus Alberto Acosta drove his gray Infiniti G35 onto the shoulder of the Eastex Freeway where he struck a small tree.
Then the motorcyclist struck the Ford pickup, lost control of his bike, and slid sideways across Eastex Freeway on his motorcycle. No one else suffered injuries in the multiple vehicle accident. The motorcyclist received transport to LBJ Hospital where he died from the Houston, TX rush hour wreck. The driver of the black Chevrolet pickup truck (or SUV) fled the scene. The Houston PD Vehicular Crimes Division requests that anyone with information on the black Chevrolet that fled the scene of the fatal traffic accident please call them at 713-247-4072.
We fervently hope that there is someone out there who can identify the black Chevrolet and its driver and turn them in. No one has a right to take chances with other people’s lives. If they want to take chances with their own lives, that’s their business. But they need to do it away from other drivers. Houston has a couple of official drag racing venues where those who want to risk the thrill of speed can do so without endangering innocent lives.
Our sympathies go out to the friends and family of David Novreske, the victim of this deadly and illegal street race. Accounts of the deadly wreck indicate that the gray Infiniti G35 driven by Jesus Alberto Acosta was bouncing around the freeway and into other vehicles like a loose pinball. His pinball-like driving could have claimed other lives. We hope that authorities can keep him behind bars and off of our roads. There are enough traffic dangers out there already without his fast, and erratic, driving adding to the mix.
