The Ongoing Risk of Life Threatening Texas Workplace Accidents

Texas has the highest rate of workplace accident deaths in the nation. Many of those occur in the construction industry. Despite the long litany of federal rules relating to construction practices and safety standards, our Pearland work accident attorneys note that construction workers continue to suffer serious and fatal injuries from falls, equipment accidents, structural collapses, and other problems.

For example, a construction worker died in League City after an accident late on Monday. The man had been driving a compactor over a pile of dirt as he worked on a project to widen the League City Parkway. The dirt compactor overturned and trapped the man, who was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries. He died several hours later. (Source: KWES NewsWest 9, 11/20/13)

Our Pearland work accident attorneys also recently read that OSHA has opened an investigation into a Pearland road construction accident that hospitalized two workers. OSHA investigations look for violations of U.S. workplace health or safety standards. When the agency finds such violations, it can issue citations and fine the employer. Click the link to read about a Texas employer that was recently fined for serious safety violations that led to the deaths of two truck drivers from exposure to toxic substances.

In the Pearland road construction accident currently under investigation, two workers were ejected from the back of a fast-moving pickup truck at a construction site on Main Street. The truck’s driver admitted to becoming distracted and then running into a mound of dirt. The high-speed impact with the dirt mound vaulted the pickup truck into the air, throwing the two workers into the air as well. Both workers required hospitalization for their injuries. Construction by Triple B Services has been underway at the Pearland site since 2010 to widen the 2.6 mile stretch of Main Street from Broadway to Beltway 8.
