Newly Engaged Couple Killed by Houston Drunk Driver | DENENA | POINTS

Two pedestrians, who were newly engaged, were killed in a South Houston car accident. It happened around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21 while they were taking a walk together. The 23-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were walking to a convenience store when they were stuck by a car.

The man is identified as Tarrel Waller, who recently moved to the Houston area from Florida to be with his fiancée. The woman’s identity has not yet been released.

According to the Houston Police Department, the driver of the car has been identified as 30-year-old Chavon Latowya Frank. Frank was driving a Toyota Corolla when she ran a red light at the intersection of White Heather and West Fuqua Street and struck the couple. Police say that she was intoxicated and attempted to flee the scene. They also stated that Frank dragged the unidentified woman about 50 yards down the street before continuing to drive away.

A witness to the incident followed the driver until police arrived and were able to apprehend the woman. Witness Charles Ashley told police that he saw the couple get hit and fall to the ground. He immediately ran over to offer help. At the time the witness arrived, Waller was still breathing but later succumbed to his injuries.

Waller’s mother drove past the scene of the accident and recognized her son’s shoe. She said she could see him lying on the ground and couldn’t get to him. She is greatly affected by this tragic event and is said to be struggling to understand how someone could have done this to her son.
