A mother died in a crash and her two children received critical injuries when a Deerbrook Mall shoplifting suspect fleeing from police ran a red light and broadsided the family’s vehicle on Thursday afternoon around 4. The family’s vehicle flipped over and landed on its hood.
21-year-old Shiquinta Franklin was driving the getaway car in which she and her two friends fled from police. The trio had allegedly shoplifted about $2,600 worth of merchandise from Macy’s at Deerbrook Mall and fled in a red Dodge Avenger towards Houston on Highway 59. The Dodge Avenger exited Highway 59 at Quitman and ran the red light at the intersection. The three suspects tried to flee on foot after the deadly crash, but were caught.
Authorities have charged Shiquinta Franklin with murder, evading arrest, and accident involving injury and death. (Sources: Houston Chronicle; and kens5.com, 5/24/13)
