Man spends evening hanging from tree after balcony collapses below him | DENENA | POINTS

Balcony collapse attorneys pass along news of a dangerous Kitchener, ON balcony collapse accident. In Kitchener, Ontario, emergency rescue workers strapped a 67-year-old man to a backboard to stabilize him before lowering him from a tree and transporting him to a hospital for further examination and care. The man had been standing on a second floor balcony stringing Christmas lights up at his house when the balcony suddenly collapsed beneath him.

The man was able to grab onto a nearby tree and avoid a nasty plunge to the ground below. He hung from the tree while awaiting help. His wife went next door to ask a neighbor to call for help. The neighbor placed the call and emerged from his home to see the man dangling from a tree and the balcony flattened against the front of the house. The balcony was still attached to the home at its back edge, but had dropped away from supports at the front.

The man was able to hang on for 30 minutes while rescue crews did their work. Authorities said that they did not think the man had suffered any serious injuries from the balcony collapse accident. They strung “Caution” tape across the front steps of the home to warn of the danger of the partially collapsed balcony still looming above.
