Killeen Wreck Kills Motorcyclist as Turning Car Pulls in Front of Him | DENENA | POINTS

Saturday around 3:30 p.m., Simon Nevarez was westbound on the Stan Schlueter Loop on his Honda motorcycle when the driver of an eastbound Mitsubishi Eclipse turned in front of him. Our Texas motorcycle crash attorneys report that the fatal crash occurred at the intersection with South Ford Hood Road. The Eclipse driver had pulled into the path of Mr. Nevarez’s motorcycle while turning into a parking lot.

When the motorcycle struck the Eclipse that had suddenly appeared in its path, the impact sent the Eclipse into a Jeep Compass pulling out of the same parking lot. Reportedly, the driver of a westbound Ford F-150 had stopped and motioned the Eclipse driver to cross the road prior to the accident. (Source: kwtx.com, 7/16/13)

Important Study Reveals Drivers of Enclosed Vehicles are to Blame for Majority of Crashes with Motorcycles

Chanyoung Lee analyzed 10 years of data on crashes between motorcycles and enclosed vehicles at the South Florida Center for Urban Transportation. He found that in 60% of the motorcycle crashcases, the drivers of the larger, enclosed vehicles were at fault for the motorcycle collisions.

The data showed that distracted driving by those drivers caused many of the accidents. Our Texas motorcycle crash attorneys point out that several studies have also shown that drivers of larger, enclosed vehicles tend to look out for vehicles their own size or larger on the road, and don’t necessarily perceive motorcyclists. And many wrecks are caused when the larger vehicles suddenly turn or pull out in front of the motorcycles without leaving a large enough safety gap, as might have happened in the tragic crash on the Stan Schlueter Loop. Click the link to read about another fatal collision that occurred when a larger vehicle suddenly pulled out in front of the motorcyclist.
