Important Carnival Ride Safety Tips for Houston Rodeo Goers
It’s time again for the Houston Rodeo, and that means trail riders, livestock shows, and lots of fun and exciting amusement rides. Around two million people are expected to attend the Houston Rodeo this year, and that means lots of folks will be riding the rides. To help you enjoy the rides and keep you and your children safe, our Houston ride injury attorneys post these important carnival ride safety tips and reminders just in time for the start of the event.
Ride Safety Tips:
- Know your own medical risk: if you have injuries or pre-existing medical conditions that could cause you harm on a ride, don’t get on. Ask your doctor about your risks.
- Dress safely for amusement park rides: don’t wear loose clothing or open-toed shoes. Secure long hair and jewelry before getting on a ride.
- Watch the ride before getting on to see what you should expect. Watch where and how riders load and unload for the ride.
- Always use the safety devices and equipment provided for you such as lap bars, belts, and shoulder harnesses.
- Check to make sure that your safety restraints are properly locked and latched before the ride begins moving.
- Don’t drink and ride: alcohol places you and others at risk for injuries.
- Don’t engage in horseplay or other rider misbehavior: our Houston ride injury attorneys emphasize that it endangers you and other riders.
- Never rock a ride that isn’t supposed to have its motion controlled by you.
- Never attempt to get free of ride restraints and other safety devices.
- Obey the ride’s age, weight, height and medical or health restrictions.
- Obey all posted safety rules for the ride and all verbal or recorded instructions provided by ride operators.
- Keep your arms, legs, hands, feet, and head inside of the ride at all times.
- Never stand up in a ride: remain seated in the ride for the duration of the ride in the locked and loaded position until the ride comes to a complete stop and you are told to unload.
- If you’re riding rides with high g-forces like roller coasters, take frequent breaks to reduce your chances of injury or lost consciousness caused by repeated high g-forces.
- If a ride stops temporarily, remain seated and wait for the ride to begin moving again or for the ride operator to give you instructions about what to do. Don’t stand up or try to get off the ride; the ride could suddenly begin moving again at any time and you could fall.
- If you notice an unsafe condition on the ride (like a lap bar that won’t latch) or unsafe behavior, report it immediately.
