Five Ways to Avoid Falling Victim to Road Rage.
The congested highways like Highway 288, I45, I10, Highway 290, the Beltway, the Sam Houston, Highway 59 and the roads in and around Houston are becoming increasingly congested with drivers. With that congestion is goin to come road rage. Don’t be a road rager and don’t be a victim. Follow these five rules.
1. Loosen up, take a breath, calm down.
Just try and take it easy. Release that death grip on the steering wheel, sit back and do your best to relax. You cannot do anything about the traffic. Certainly causing a wreck because you are in a rage is going to make it worse on everyone, you included.
2. Do not be hostile to other drivers.
Cussing, hand gestures, honking and other hostile acts just make everyone around you hostile to you as well. The bad behavior just causes more bad behavior by everyone else. Plus, this is highly risky behavior on your part. You have no idea what type of person you are dealing with in that other car. No idea what that person is capable of doing to you. It simply isn’t worth it.
3. Plan ahead.
If you think of getting in your car and speeding to work is the way to make up for being behind schedule you are wrong! That is dangerous to you and everyone else. Plan ahead in the morning to make your morning go more smoothly. Do the same at work.
4. Don’t think of your car as a therapist or a weapon!
Don’t use your car as a way to blow off steam and take out your anger. In these situations you are prone to not pay attention and to driver too fast and erratically. A car is for getting from point A to point B, not to make you feel better by putting others at danger.
5. Be polite and kind to your fellow motorists.
Congested intersection and another driver needs into the line? Slow down and make a space for them. Is it your turn to zipper-in to the line as you are entering the freeway? Go ahead and let the car next to you proceed in front of you. In short, do unto others as you would want other to do unto you.
