A fiery crash Thursday night in the Mid Cities on heavily traveled I-30 has claimed the lives of two people and left two others with serious injuries. Apparently a gray Dodge traveling at high speed veered off course after coming upon a lane closure at a construction site at Belt Line Road and struck a Toyota SUV and then a Chevrolet sedan. The gas tank on the Dodge ruptured in the crash and led to a fiery blaze.
The Dodge was struck by a Chevy Tahoe SUV and burst into flames. The occupants of the Dodge died at the scene of the fiery crash on I-30. Two occupants of the Chevy Tahoe SUV received transport to the hospital for serious injuries. Police mentioned that the driver of the SUV that fatally struck the Dodge might have been intoxicated and may face charges. (Source: wfaa.com, 1/1/13)

Late Night Crashes Frequently Result from Driver Fatigue
Accounts of the fiery, fatal I-30 crash do not specify the initial cause of the accident that resulted in the Dodge driver losing control of the vehicle. But our Texas accident lawyers point out that driver fatigue often contributes to late night wrecks. The U.S. NHTSA issued a report called Drowsy Driving and Automobile Crashes documenting the effects of insufficient sleep on drivers. Inadequate amounts of sleep impaired drivers’ abilities to adequately perform the complex tasks necessary for safe driving.
The NHTSA report revealed that driver fatigue resulted in slowed reaction times, impaired attention to the road, lack of vigilance while driving, impaired information processing and decision making, and greatly increased risk for falling asleep at the wheel and swerving off course to cause a crash. And when gas tanks rupture in the resulting wrecks, sometimes from inherent vehicle defects, people die in the resulting fiery blazes. Learn about basic first aid for burn injuries.
