Call our Houston Personal Injury Attorneys to Report Heart Arrhythmia or Cardiac Arrest from Monster Energy Drinks
If you’ve been injured by a food or drink product, it is vital to report your injury at once. The U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) takes the reports of such injuries seriously. When several reports of serious injury come in that all point to the same product, the FDA might open an investigation as it has done with the Monster energy drinks.

The U.S. FDA is Investigating Monster Energy Drinks due to Five Reported Deaths and One Non-Fatal Cardiac Arrest
The FDA says it has received five reports of deaths and one report of a non-fatal heart attack that link the cardiac failures to consumption of the highly-caffeinated Monster energy beverages. The FDA investigation is in process. An FDA spokeswoman says that the reports linking the heart failures to the Monster energy drinks don’t prove that the drinks actually caused the fatal and non-fatal heart attacks.
In one incident, the parents of a teen girl are suing Monster Beverage Corp. claiming that their daughter died after consuming two of the 24-ounce energy drinks in a single 24-hour period. The teen’s autopsy report linked her death to cardiac arrhythmia due to caffeine toxicity. The young lady had an inherited condition that could weaken blood vessels as well. Monster is claiming that it does not believe its products have fatally injured anyone. Energy drinks like Monster contain relatively large amounts of caffeine. That’s part of how they deliver that jolt of energy to those who consume the drinks.
Our Houston Personal Injury Attorneys Caution that Caffeine is not as Harmless as You might Believe
Caffeine is both an invigorating and an addicting substance. If you are a regular coffee drinker or consumer of caffeinated sodas, you might have noticed a caffeine withdrawal headache if you’ve ever tried to do without your favorite beverage for a few days.
While ordinary doses of caffeine are harmless to most people, those doses and certainly large doses of caffeine can injure susceptible individuals. And immensely large doses of caffeine can be toxic to just about anyone. It will be interesting to see what the FDA investigation concludes regarding the heart failure incidents linked to Monster Energy drinks.
