Last month our Texas product liability lawyers mentioned that the FDA was investigating the highly caffeinated Monster Energy drinks for links to 5 reported deaths from the product. Wednesday revealed reports that the FDA is also investigating another very highly caffeinated beverage, the 5-Hour Energy shots, for links to 13 deaths and 30 serious medical emergencies including heart attacks, convulsions, and a spontaneous abortion.
Contact our Texas Product Liability Lawyers to Report Your Medical Emergency from the 5-Hour Energy Drink Shot
When you’ve suffered injury or lost a loved one to a product that was supposed to enliven, not injure, you, it’s critically important that your information be reported. The FDA keeps track of such reports so that it can decide when to investigate a dangerous product and determine if it must be pulled from the market.
It is also vital that you be able to seek financial recompense after a medical emergency has disrupted your life and your ability to work, and has left you with a heavy financial burden. At Denena & Points, we maintain ongoing efforts to warn the public about potentially dangerous products and to protect the rights of victims who have been harmed by the products. We also want to ensure that the FDA receives reports of Texans who have been harmed by the products.
As part of that ongoing effort, we ask that you contact us right away to report any adverse medical events you or your family members have experienced from the 5-Hour Energy shots. You can reach us at281-369-4363 or by filling out our “Get Help Now” online contact form.
The History of Problems Reported from the 5-Hour Energy Drinks
13 deaths have been linked to the highly caffeinated drink shots over the last four years, as well as over 30 life-threatening medical events. Since 2009, the 5-Hour Energy product has been named as the problem in 90 filings with the FDA.
The federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration reports that in 2009 alone, more than 13,000 emergency room visits were linked to problems suffered from energy drinks.
Living Essentials is the company that produces the 5-Hour Energy product. The company refuses to call it an “energy drink,” which strikes us as specious. The beverage represents a “shot” of energy and is roughly two ounces in size. But that two ounces of product packs a wallop of caffeine and other substances that has turned out to be life threatening and even deadly for some consumers. (Source: Reuters, 11/14/12)
Despite the potentially life-threatening consequences of consuming some of these caffeine-packed energy beverages, the FDA does not currently disclose publicly the adverse medical event filings lodged with the agency concerning things like energy drinks and dietary supplements.
So until quite a few people have died, and someone takes it upon themselves to investigate, you won’t hear about it. And you might be puzzled when you end up in the emergency room after drinking what seemed like a harmless energy boost. In this case, the New York Times seems to have been the first to uncover and post the revelations about the FDA and the 5-Hour Energy drink.
If the drink has harmed you, don’t hesitate to contact our Texas product liability lawyers immediately at Denena & Points. We can help.
