Safety Warning: Texas has More Motorcycle Fatalities than Any Other U.S. State
U.S. NHTSA data indicates that around 5,000 motorcyclists died in the United States in 2012. 460 of those tragic motorcycle fatalities occurred in Texas. Our Pearland motorcycle accident lawyers point out that the Texas total represents almost 10% of the death total for the entire United States: far too many fatalities.
Some safety advocates believe that laws requiring all motorcyclists to wear helmets would help reduce the tragic total of motorcycle deaths in Texas. At present, Texas law only requires bikers under 21 to always wear their helmets. Motorcyclists 21 and over can choose not to wear helmets so long as they meet certain insurance and rider training requirements.
In a serious accident though, bikers are often ejected from their bikes to impact head-first at high speed into concrete highways, other vehicles, or trees, sign posts, or barriers. And accidents can occur from bikes hitting patches of loose gravel, careless turns or lane changes made by other drivers, or any number of other reasons. A helmet could greatly reduce your chances of serious injury or death in the event of a motorcycle accident. Our Pearland motorcycle accident lawyers urge you to always wear your helmet when riding a motorcycle.
