Possible DUI-Related Fatal Crash in National Forest, Montgomery County, TX
Montgomery County, where residents have been severely affected by the Texas wildfires this summer, saw a tragic, fatal accident in the national forest area this weekend. On Friday night, September 9, 2011, two men from Montgomery County, TX were in a Geo Prizm on FM 149 in the national forest when they suffered a disastrous rollover crash. According to reports, the driver, Eugene Gibson, rounded a curve at a high rate of speed. Reports indicate that he lost control of the vehicle, and that the Geo Prizm left the roadway, hit a tree, and rolled over onto its roof. The car also carried a passenger, Mike Latyne.
The Montgomery County Fire Department, MHCD and PHI Air Medical responded to the scene of the rollover crash. Pictures from the accident indicate that rescue workers faced a challenging task to extract the two men from the crumpled vehicle. When rescuers succeeding in freeing Eugene Gibson from the twisted wreckage of the Geo Prizm, Mr., Gibson suffered traumatic arrest. Rescue crews were unable to save him. Mr. Mike Latyne has been hospitalized in stable condition. He admitted that both men had been drinking before their rollover crash in Montgomery County, TX.
