Early Texas summer this year might increase risk of child drownings

Harris County injury attorneys note that last year’s heat wave generated record drought conditions across Texas. And you might have noticed that we didn’t really have any winter this year to speak of. And so far, the spring season has been unnaturally warm with March and April temperatures that track our usual May and June temperatures.

The unusual heat has led some children and families to head to pools, ponds, and swimming holes early in order to see relief from the unusual and early heat. You might have read of the tragic loss of a Cleveland, Texas boy to a pond drowning. And on Saturday, a LifeFlight transported a 4-year-old girl from the Augusta Pines neighborhood of Harris County to Memorial Hermann Hospital after a near drowning.

The Harris County injury attorneys at Denena & Points emphasize that this spring, summer, and fall might present heightened risks of injuries and drowning at area pools, water parks, and water features.

  • Be aware of the risks and stay vigilant. Protect your children from the dangers of drowning.
  • If you have your own pool, be sure that it complies with all local and federal safety standards, particularly regarding drain guards and safety equipment.
  • Research the safety record of local public pools and water parks for violations before allowing your children to attend.
  • And accompany your children on any water outings if at all possible.

If your child receives injuries in a water park or pool accident, feel free to contact our Harris County injury attorneys for a complimentary initial legal consultation. We could help you understand your legal options as you seek justice and fair financial compensation for your child’s undeserved injury.
