23-year-old Ryan Dean Birdwell, now charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault with a motor vehicle, was driving northbound on Highway 61 around 11:30 on Saturday night when he veered off the roadway. When he tried to get back on the road, he overcorrected and crashed into a tree. The impact near Devers killed one of his passengers, a 16-year-old boy, at the scene.
