60% of All U.S. Wrong Way Wrecks are Alcohol-Related

Head-on crashes like the one that led to so many injuries and a death in the Highway 124 wrong way crash account for about 10% of U.S. traffic fatalities annually, even though only about 3% of all collisions occur head-on. That’s because the head-on crashes tend to occur at high speed. And the violent frontal impacts cause more severe traumas than many other types of accidents.

Our Highway 124 personal injury attorneys emphasize that studies of U.S. crash data show that about 60% of all wrong way wrecks are alcohol-related. And studies by individual U.S. state authorities demonstrate that the fatality rates for head-on wrong way crashes are from 12% to 27% higher than for other types of wrecks.
