On Wednesday on U.S. Highway 90 near Texas 6 in Sugar Land, Texas, a dump truck driver had to be extracted from his crushed cab after he rear-ended an 18-wheeler at high speed. Sugar Land police said the 18-wheeler had been stopped at a red light around noon when the dump truck rear-ended the semi at about 50 mph.
The high-speed impact reportedly shoved the stopped 18-wheeler at least 30 feet forward. The dump truck driver received a LifeFlight airlift to the hospital with serious injuries, including head trauma. The 18-wheeler driver received abdominal injuries in the accident. (Source: khou.com, 6/12/13)
