Drunk Driver Runs into Houston Fire Department Pump Truck

Our Houston accident attorneys have written about a rash of accidents involving drunk drivers who plow right into police cars. These accidents facilitate the DWI arrests of the drunk drivers, but cost taxpayers money to repair or replace the damaged police vehicles, and pay for the medical expenses of the injured officers.

Now our Houston accident attorneys notice that drunk drivers are finding even more prominent objects to crash with their misguided vehicles: large Fire Department trucks.

Ming Bin Li, 24, ran a red light at a high rate of speed and crashed into the Houston Fire Department pump truck crossing the intersection at Bellaire and the Beltway 8 feeder road. One firefighter received multiple injuries and fractures to his left arm and hand. Ming Bin Lin broke his leg in the crash. Li faces felony DWI charges of intoxication assault of a firefighter. A blood draw was taken from Ming Bin Li at the hospital.

Houston accident attorneys note that even if you are lucky enough never to experience a drunk driving wreck personally, drunk drivers are costing you money. Drunk driving costs Texans millions upon millions of dollars each year in:

  • Accident investigations,
  • Blood draws and analysis,
  • Pay for officers dedicated to DWI enforcement,
  • Costs to tow and repair damaged vehicles,
  • Costs to repair damaged guardrails, bridge and overpass supports, and other DWI accident damage,
  • Medical expenses for injured victims, and
  • Court costs associated with the crimes.

Even if you don’t pay income taxes, you face sales taxes, property taxes, and other taxes to help pay the extensive costs of these completely preventable accidents. Save money. Save lives. Don’t drive drunk or impaired, and don’t enable others to do so either.
