What are Some of the Complications Caused by a Vaginal Prolapse?

The FDA estimates that as many as half of all women may suffer a vaginal prolapse. But a vaginal prolapse condition does not always present the symptoms that can complicate your life until it becomes severe. Various factors influence whether your vaginal prolapse condition will become severe, and how quickly it will do so. Once your vaginal prolapse starts to become more severe, you may notice some of the following complications:

* Vaginal ulcers;
* Pain during sexual intercourse;
* Constipation;
* Frequent urgency to urinate;
* Difficulty voiding the bladder and/or the bowels;
* Urinary incontinence;
* Incontinence of the bowels;
* Pain in the legs, abdomen and/or vaginal area;
* Difficulty standing for extended periods of time; and/or
* Lower back pain.

The complications of a vaginal prolapse condition can be annoying, embarrassing, painful and limiting. You want relief. In extreme cases, you may turn to surgical mesh repair as the most promising treatment. The FDA issued a July 2011 warning to seek alternatives to surgical mesh repair of vaginal prolapse whenever possible. It said that complications from that medical device implantation procedure were frequent and severe.

You may have already undergone the medical device implantation procedure. And you may have consequently suffered some of its possible complications.
