Casing Rupture on Corsicana Gas Well Causes Explosion, Injuring Worker | DENENA | POINTS

Thursday about 6 a.m., the casing ruptured on a gas well off of SE County Road 3100 near Eureka, a town outside of Corsicana, Texas. The rupture caused an explosion of injection fluid and drilling mud from the gas well, but reportedly no gas is leaking from the well. Our Texas gas well accident attorneys sadly note that one worker was seriously injured by the explosion and received transport to the hospital.

Officials said about 4 gallons per minute of the injection fluids and drilling mud were leaking from the gas well after the accident. The substances are being captured and held in a retention pond. The gas well had neared completion, and was about 75% complete. O’Brien Energy owns the well. Authorities were investigating the accident to determine why the casing ruptured. Workers in the Oil and Gas Industry Face Much Higher Risks of Fatal Job Accidents than Other Workers

The U.S. CDC says statistics show that workers in the oil and gas industry face a risk for fatal on-the-job accidents that is 7 times higher than for other U.S. workers. Their risk of death is 27.1 per 100,000 workers. Other U.S. workers generally only face a risk of 3.8 per 100,000. The volatile, combustible nature of the products involved in the oil and gas industry means that explosions, fires, and other accidents present very real threats.

Of course, any risk of death on the job is too high. Nobody gets paid enough to take that kind of risk. But both governments and workers welcome the oil and gas industry, with its heavy capital investments and high-paying jobs.

Many of the workers employed in the oil and gas sector are contract workers, which means that they aren’t covered by Texas workers’ compensation in the event of an on-the-job accident. That generally means it’s harder for them to recover the financial compensation they deserve after a serious injury accident, and that they’ll require the help of a skilled Texas gas well accident attorney to obtain it. But it might also mean that the amounts of compensation the workers could recover are much higher, since they aren’t limited to the capped maximums based on fractions of wages that affect those covered by worker’s compensation.
