In northwest Harris County on Wednesday afternoon around 1:30, a white car reportedly turned in front of an ambulance that had its lights flashing and was responding to a call. The ambulance was northbound on Texas Highway 6 and crashed into the car that suddenly turned in front of it at Keith Harrow. Our Highway 6 accident injury attorneys note that the ambulance belonged to the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department.
The violent car and ambulance crash sent two paramedics to Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital where they were in stable condition. The driver of the white car suffered critical injuries from the crash with the ambulance. The thoughts and prayers of our Highway 6 accident injury attorneys are with all the injured victims of this car and ambulance crash.
Failure to Yield to an Ambulance is Illegal, but It’s a Common Problem
Accident statistics indicate that about 6,500 ambulance crashes occur each year in the United States resulting in around 1,000 fatalities. Almost 80% of these accidents involve the ambulance crashing into another vehicle.
Very often those car and ambulance crashes happen because the drivers of the other vehicles fail to yield to the ambulances. Our Highway 6 accident injury attorneys emphasize that it is against the law NOT to yield to an ambulance with its lights flashing. You must pull over to the right, out of the way of the oncoming ambulance, to allow it to get to the emergency it’s responding to. You can be cited and fined if you fail to yield.
