So-Called “Friend” Abandons Injured & Dying Friends after Causing Wreck

David Cruz, 20, provides a shocking example of truly callous behavior following a wreck that occurred while he was driving three companions in a Hyundai on Halloween. Just before 1 a.m., David Cruz wrecked at Broadway and the Gulf Freeway. Two of his friends in the car suffered injuries from which they were bleeding. But they remained conscious. A third friend was unconscious with serious injuries after the accident.

Pasadena injury lawyers ask: did David Cruz call 911 on behalf of his injured companions? Did he stop and render what aid he could to them? No on both counts.

Following the fatal wreck, David Cruz took off in the vehicle and dropped his injured companions off in the parking lot of an apartment complex some miles away at Bellfort. Then he scooped beer cans out of the Hyundai where he ran to a friend’s apartment and changed clothes.

Our Pasadena injury lawyers note that the two injured but conscious passengers in the ill-starred Hyundai were twin brothers some years younger than David Cruz. They called their mother, who wisely called 911. Rescue workers took the unconscious friend of the young twins to Ben Taub hospital where he died from his injuries in the wreck.

Our Pasadena injury lawyers can’t help but wonder if the young man who died from this wreck might have survived if he had received medical attention sooner. Most people know not to move severely injured people after their accidents because of the danger of increasing the level of injury.

Yet David Cruz unceremoniously and heedlessly drove this injured young man around while he sought to escape the consequences of his actions. He unceremoniously left him injured and unconscious in an apartment parking lot while he cleared his Hyundai of potentially incriminating beer cans and went to put on fresh clothes.

News accounts of the accident and its aftermath report that the young twins were shocked by David Cruz’s cold and callous actions after the wreck. As well they should be. We understand their shock and confusion following the accident.

The two twins were injured, bleeding, and disoriented, with an unconscious friend whose life was slipping away before their very eyes. They were younger and powerless against a driver who chose to flee the scene of the accident and ignore the plight of his injured companions. Our Pasadena injury lawyers fear that these two twins might suffer the traumatic effects of being involved in this incident with such a callous and irresponsible individual as David Cruz for some time.

Authorities have wisely placed David Cruz behind bars. They have charged him with failure to stop and render aid. These Pasadena injury lawyers wonder if intoxication assault and intoxication manslaughter could later be added to this charge.

One thing at least is clear. David Cruz is someone all should want to keep off of our roads and away from the wheel of a motor vehicle.
