About the Fatal, Alcohol-Fueled, High-Speed Crash at Bunny Run Drive and West Mount Houston Road
Around 10 p.m. on Thursday night, a Ford Explorer SUV driven by Edgar Carboso Cruz T-boned a Chevy Cavalier at the intersection of Bunny Run Drive and West Mount Houston Road. Reportedly, the Cavalier had been trying to cut across West Mount Houston Road when the wreck occurred.
The high-speed impact drove the Chevy Cavalier off of the road, across a gas station’s parking lot, and into the woods beyond. Rescue crews required the Jaws of Life to free two of the three Chevy Cavalier occupants from the vehicle.
Brandon Lee, the front seat passenger in the Cavalier, sustained fatal injuries in the alcohol-fueled crash. The driver of the Cavalier and a back seat passenger are hospitalized with serious injuries from the wreck.
Edgar Carboso Cruz, the driver of the Ford Explorer SUV, fled the scene of the fatal crash on foot but then returned. HCSO deputies said Cruz exhibited signs of impairment at the scene and admitted to drinking alcohol prior to the crash. Officers arrested Cruz and charged him with DWI as well as two counts of failure to stop and render aid.
The HCSO’s Traffic Division has an ongoing investigation of the wreck and is investigating whether both drivers might have been intoxicated at the time of the crash. (Sources: KTRK, abc13.com, and click2houston.com, 11/2/12)
