20 Year Old Wrong Way Driver Kills 2 in Fiery Beltway 8 DWI Crash | DENENA | POINTS

Sunday morning before 5 a.m., a 20-year-old in a black sedan was driving the wrong way on Beltway 8 in Houston. As she approached the Aldine Westfield overpass, the wrong way driver crashed into another car in a catastrophic head-on collision. The car she hit burst into flames.

The man and woman inside the car she hit died at the scene. Houston Institute of Forensic Sciences investigators were trying to determine the precise cause of death after extracting the two deceased victims from the charred vehicle. Our Beltway 8 fatal crash attorneys also note that a third car was pushed into the Beltway 8 retaining wall by the fiery head-on collision.

Eastbound lanes of Beltway 8 were closed for several hours while authorities investigated the fatal head-on collision caused by the wrong way driver. The 20-year-old wrong way driver was not seriously injured in the crash she precipitated. She has been charged with intoxication manslaughter for the two tragic deaths. Just a few days ago, another wrong way driver killed a victim and injured 3 others in a fatal head-on crash on U.S. 59 that was caused by a wrong way driver. Click on the link to read about that fatalhead-on collision.

Our Beltway 8 fatal crash attorneys convey their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the man and woman killed so tragically in Sunday morning’s wrong way driving crash.

Intoxicated Drivers cause about 60% of Wrong Way Driving Crashes

Data collected by the U.S. NHTSA and NTSB show that drunken drivers cause over half of all fatal wrong-way driving crashes. Only about 3% of all wrecks are wrong-way crashes, but the fatal toll they take is up to 27 times higher than for other wrecks. This is because the majority of the wrong-way wrecks involve catastrophic head-on collisions, like the one on Beltway 8, that occur at high speed and often involve alcohol-impaired drivers.

According to TxDOT data, in 2011 drunken drivers caused more than 27,000 Texas accidents. The numbers demonstrate that drunken driving remains a huge problem in Texas, particularly in Harris County.

Our Beltway 8 fatal crash attorneys urge you to drive responsibly. Don’t drink and drive. Educate your family and friends about the dangers of drunken driving and fatal wrong-way crashes.
