SUV Kills Motorcyclist in Fiery Uvalde Road Hit and Run Wreck | DENENA | POINTS

Two suspects in a carjacked, maroon Isuzu Ascender SUV were heading down Uvalde Road in northeast Harris County on Saturday night around 7 at a speed reportedly far in excess of the 30 mph speed limit. Our Harris County motorcycle accident attorneys note that motorcyclist Thomas Hooper was pulling out of a parking lot near the Woodforest intersection when the suspects in the Isuzu Ascender rammed him from behind.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said that the horrific high-speed hit and run wreck tangled the motorcycle and its rider in the Isuzu SUV. And that the suspects in the Isuzu pushed Thomas Hooper forward for about 50 yards and his motorcycle for another 100 yards beyond that on Uvalde Road.

All that apparently stopped the suspects’ forward drive was the motorcycle and then the Isuzu SUV erupting into flames. The two cowardly suspects then fled from the vehicle on foot, leaving Thomas Hooper behind. Mr. Hooper was rushed to the hospital, but pronounced dead. (Source: KTRK ABC 13, 6/23/13)

The Harris County motorcycle accident attorneys at Denena Points, PC express their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Hooper.

Texas Accounts for Almost 10% of Motorcycle Fatalities Nationwide

460 motorcyclists died in fatal motorcycle crashes in Texas in 2012. That’s down from 488 in 2011. Our Harris county motorcycle accident attorneys point out that Texas is one of the top three U.S. states in the number of its fatal motorcycle accidents. With about 5,000 U.S. motorcycle fatalities annually, Texas accounts for almost 10% of that number.

TxDOT and the DPS urge particular rider caution at the two places where most of these fatal motorcycle accidents occur: intersections and when vehicles are changing lanes. But no amount of rider caution could likely avoid the callous actions of cowardly hit and run carjacking suspects. Motorcycles represent less than 3% of the vehicles on the road, but their riders account for 13% of accident fatalities. 89% of Texas motorcycle accidents result in injury or death.

Our Harris County motorcycle accident attorneys urge drivers of all vehicles to share the road and be conscious of safety for yourself and others. And when you have information on hit and run drivers, report it; get them off the road; and save some lives.
