Our Texas roller coaster attorneys report that the Six Flags amusement park in Arlington, Texas has closed off the area around the Texas Giant roller coaster after a woman reportedly fell to a tragic death Friday evening around 6:30.
A witness indicated to reporters that the woman who fell had apparently not felt that her restraint was safely latched and had asked employees to re-latch it, but she was told that it was safely latched. The witness, in line for the Texas Giant behind the woman who fell, indicated her opinion that the Six Flags employees had not secured the woman properly.
The woman’s safety restraint released during the ride as the Texas Giant was going down an incline. The witnesses say the safety restraint suddenly released on a down slope and the woman just “tumbled” out of the roller coaster car and fell. Our Texas roller coaster attorneys understand that the woman seemed to just “vanish” from the car when she fell.
Witnesses said they heard the woman screaming and that the woman’s relatives were in the front rows screaming after the ride because their mother was gone. About the Tragic Houston Rodeo Roller Coaster Fall in 2011
47-year-old Brian Greenhouse, the father of a 6-year-old boy, fell 28 feet to an untimely death from the Hi-Miler roller coaster at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in March 2011. He sustained severe chest and head injuries in the almost 3-story fall. A reason for the man’s fall was determined to be failure of a locking mechanism on the lap bar.
Previous riders had reported that the same lap bar in the same car from which the man fell had failed before and that ride owners and operators had failed to act on their reports to correct the problem. A single screw was supposed to hold the locking mechanism latch pin in place, but it was found out of place after the accident, which allowed the lap bar to release and eject the man as the roller coaster crested a hill. The case alleged that negligent maintenance might have contributed to the failure of the locking mechanism.
The Texas roller coaster attorneys at Denena Points, PC were able to help the Mr. Greenhouse’s grieving family successfully obtain a multi-million dollar settlement after the tragic and avoidable accident needlessly claimed the man’s life.
