Crippled Carnival Cruise Ship to Limp into Port under Tow on Thursday | DENENA | POINTS

Vacationers, some of them first-time cruise passengers, all set for a quick four-day trip to Mexico and back and a break from U.S. winter storms, did not get what they expected on the Carnival Triumph. With sewage and feces reportedly running down the walls and across the floors, our Galveston cruise ship injury lawyers suspect that the ship is quickly turning into a floating biohazard.

Eyewitness reports from the ship itself have been infrequent due to limited cell phone access and power. But what reports there are indicate alarming conditions. People aboard are becoming sick and throwing up. The stench is intense. And lack of air conditioning has made parts of the ship’s interior too hot to bear. But the heat is also likely increasing opportunities for bacteria and other germs to grow.

The ship is not expected back into port until sometime Thursday. We hope that no virus or bacterial outbreak adds to passenger woes. Apparently they are already sleeping out on deck due to the heat. Our Galveston cruise ship injury lawyers emphasize that food and water supplies are limited, as is toilet service. People are being asked to defecate into bags and urinate in the showers, a usually unacceptable practice.

And lines for food were reported to be more than three hours long. Food supplies on board may be in danger of contamination due to lack of refrigeration and proper storage. On the positive side, no one was reported injured in the engine room fire that left the ship adrift without power and services. Carnival has already said that it has cancelled the next two cruises scheduled for the Carnival Triumph. It will probably take at least that long to clean the ship. And a bold cleaning crew to go in and do it.
