A woman in her 20s was walking back home from a Wal*Mart grocery store laden with bags in a grocery cart when she was hit by a car on Friday night about 10:30. The woman was returning home with the groceries and household goods to her husband and children at the time. The pedestrian accident happened along North Loop 336 west of Longmire Road in Conroe. Reportedly the woman was crossing the roadway in an unlit area without a crosswalk.
The seriously injured woman, in critical condition after the pedestrian accident, received air transport to Memorial Hermann Hospital. All lanes of North Loop 336 were closed for hours as Conroe police investigated the incident. The pedestrian accident was not a hit and run, and no charges were anticipated in the crash. Vehicle-Oriented Texas Roadway Designs Contribute to Pedestrian Injury Risks
Texas roadways are not designed for pedestrians. A lack of sidewalks, crosswalks, and lighting, as well as the great width of some roadways, makes it dangerous for pedestrians to walk beside or cross Texas roadways. A Texas legislator has introduced a bill for a “Complete Streets” program so that roadway designers will have to account for the needs of pedestrians and bicyclists when they design our roadways. Our Conroe pedestrian injury lawyers hope that the bill passes this time; it was unsuccessfully introduced already back in 2011 and failed to pass.
