Covidien stated that it has concluded that Duet TRS has the potential to injure, perhaps fatally. The injury potential is to adjacent structures in the thorax. Covidien said that use of the Duet TRS medical device product could potentially cause life-threatening post-operative complications in patients. The company did not specify the nature of the damaging, potentially fatal complications.
 
Covidien said that it had sold 500,000 of the Duet TRS medical devices since 2009. The company noted that it does not yet know how many of the defective medical devices will be returned and how many have already been used.
