Deadly Toxins in Our Water

Do you drink a lot of water because you’ve been told it’s good for your health? Well, a surprising number of authorities (scientists, officials and reporters) think otherwise. Tests of water supplies in industrialized countries (including the U.S.) find amounts of varied toxic substances that exceed acceptable amounts. The toxins in our drinking water include:

* Chlorine (deliberately added to kill microbes)
* Fluoride (deliberately added)
* Aluminum (deliberately added to make water look clearer)
* Other metals
* Pesticides
* Animal wastes
* Detergents
* Prozac
* Birth control medications
* Antibiotics
* PPCPs

Numerous research studies focus on the prevalence of PPCPs (pharmaceutical & personal care pollutants) in our water supply. These come from the residue of medications, shampoos, moisturizers and so on that people use on a daily basis. For many medications, 90% of the product passes through the body and ends up in wastewater. Wastewater treatment plants concentrate on removing biological hazards (germs of various sorts) from the water. Studies say that many of the pharmaceutical residues remain in the wastewater once it’s been recycled back into the drinking water. So if you can’t afford healthcare, just drink lots of tap water. It apparently already contains most of the medications you might need.

OK, I’m a little off topic here. I initially meant to research chlorine as a tap water and pool water disinfectant for an article about a water park chlorine accident in Sacramento, CA. I was a little shocked as I came across literally hundreds of web pages discussing the many deadly toxins in our water supply. Quite a few of these pages discussed Fluoride (derived from Fluorine) as a mass pacification/behavior control agent (perhaps not a very good one, if the news reports of mischief and mayhem that I see every single day are true). Many other pages pointed to fluoride as a carcinogen and neurotoxin. Almost no one seemed particularly worried about the small amounts of chlorine in our waters. Evidently, the dangers of chlorine pale next to the dangers from some of these other things. I’m not going to worry about drinking too much coffee or soda anymore.

If you’ve been injured by a water park chlorine accident, our able water park injury attorneys could well help you. And if you’re injured from drinking too much toxin-laden tap water, perhaps we could find an appropriate law practice to which to refer you. “Think before you drink” is a phrase that pops into my head as I write about drunk driving accidents. But now that phrase has taken on a whole new meaning….
