Death at Six Flags, Woman Falls from Texas Giant Roller Coaster

Authorities and Six Flags officials are continuing to refuse to speculate on the cause of a woman’s tragic fall from the Texas Giant roller coaster in Arlington pending completion of an investigation into the death at Six Flags. Our Texas roller coaster wrongful death attorneys note that witnesses are indicating their belief that the woman was not properly secured in the ride.

Witnesses say that the woman was worried the lap bar had not been completely secured before the ride and that it released her on one of the roller coaster’s sudden maneuvers. And that’s when she tumbled from the Texas Giant to her tragic death at Six Flags.

Fire rescue ladder trucks were reportedly required to reach the woman on the platform under the roller coaster where she fell. When the ride came to a stop, a man and woman reportedly got out of the ride screaming that they needed to get out of the ride to get to their mom, who had fallen out.

Witnesses indicate there was some panic at the Texas Giant ride as word got around that someone had fallen from the ride, but many people weren’t sure who had fallen. The Texas roller coaster wrongful death attorneys at Denena Points, PC feel for the people at the ride who were frightened and crying as they searched for their family members to make sure they were all safe and accounted for. And our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the woman who tragically fell from the ride they were on.

Witness Account from the Texas Giant Roller Coaster Tragedy

Carmen Brown, a witness, told the Dallas Morning News that she was in line for the Texas Giant right behind the woman who fell to her death at Six Flags. Our Texas roller coaster wrongful death attorneys point out that Ms. Brown was in a good position to see the woman’s discussion with a ride operator as the lady was being loaded into the roller coaster.

Ms. Brown said that the woman expressed concern to the Six Flags employee that she wasn’t correctly secured in her seat. But that the employee was “basically nonchalant,” and said that “As long as you heard it click, you’re fine.” Ms. Brown said that the woman’s restraint “was the only one that went down once, and she didn’t feel safe.” (Sources: Natalie DiBlasio, usatoday.com; Foxnews.com; and Michael S. Lap Bar Release During the Rides Might Have Caused TWO Fatal Falls from Texas Roller Coasters

Tragically, it turns out that the woman was indeed not safe on the ride. And after expressing her concern about the safety of her lap bar, fell to her death at Six Flags. Equipment failures have led to other fatal roller coaster accidents. Just back in March 2011, the fatal fall of Brian Greenhouse from the Hi-Miler roller coaster at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo was attributed to release of an improperly secured lap bar during the ride. The displacement of a screw that was supposed to hold the latch pin in place was attributed to negligent maintenance. Flawed design, age and wear, and poor maintenance can all contribute to dangerous accidents on exciting thrill rides. Negligence in assembling the rides at traveling carnivals can cause problems as well. Learn about roller coaster safety: download our free report.
