3-year-old girl injured falling out of Houston Rodeo Carnival ride
Carnival ride accident attorneys note another troubling carnival ride injury at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. On Wednesday afternoon at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, a 3-year-old girl boarded the Techno Jump ride with her mother and 8-year-old brother. Reportedly, the mother climbed back out of the Techno Jump before it started, deciding that she was to large for the ride.
After the ride began, the 3-year-old girl crawled out of the ride to try and rejoin her mother. The girl fell several feet face-first onto the metal platform and suffered contusions her face and the side of her head. She received transport to Texas Children’s Hospital. The Houston Rodeo COO said a CT scan found no life-threatening or internal injuries in the injured child.
The 3-year-old girl had met the ride’s height requirements:
- At least 48 inches tall to ride alone, or
- At least 42 inches tall if accompanied by a supervising companion.
Our carnival ride accident attorneys mention that the Techno Jump ride remained closed for a group of 3 inspections after the girl’s fall. And Houston Rodeo officials changed the ride’s requirements prior to reopening the Techno Jump. Now anyone at least 42 inches tall, but not tall enough to ride alone, must be accompanied by an adult.
Houston Rodeo COO Leroy Shafer tried to pin full responsibility for children’s safety at the Rodeo Carnival on the children’s parents. But as this incident with the girl falling from the Techno Jump and injuring herself shows, the Rodeo Carnival must accept some responsibility for ensuring that children not safely supervised by their parents don’t get the opportunity to injure themselves on the rides. Had the 3-year-old girl waited a little longer to crawl out of the Techno Jump ride, she might have fallen further and received more severe injuries. Her young brother wasn’t old or strong enough to restrain the girl himself.
The hearts and prayers of our carnival ride accident attorneys are with the injured girl. We convey our wishes for her safe recovery, and a warm reunion with her brother and family at home.
