U.S. OSHA’s Role in Preventing Workplace Injury, Illness, and Death
OSHA says that the agency’s work has helped reduce worker fatalities by over 65% since 1970, even while the number of people in the American workplace has about doubled. OSHA also says that it has helped reduce on the job illness and injury by 67%.
This reduction in workplace deaths and injuries has been achieved in spite of the fact that OSHA is a relatively small agency on a very limited budget. OSHA has only about 2,200 inspectors, including those of the individual states. These 2,200 inspectors are responsible for the workplace safety of about 130 million workers (or almost 60,000 workers each). In 2011, OSHA made some 40,648 inspections, while there were 52,056 state plan inspections.
But if you’re injured on the job, OSHA will be of little help to you or your injury case. Their accident investigation reports are only designed to help the agency spot potential safety issues in the American workplace and create rules and procedures to prevent further accidents because of them. When you’re seriously injured on the job in Baytown, you need a strong and experienced Baytown work injury lawyer.
