Trucks Turning in Front of Other Vehicles: A Major Cause of Serious 18-Wheeler Crashes
18-wheelers have huge “blind spots” that can obscure a truck driver’s view of the road and approaching vehicles. Our Highway 36 truck accident attorneys point out that the dangers presented by these huge blind spots come into play especially when trucks are backing up or making turns. It’s the responsibility of the truck driver to make sure that the area is clear of approaching vehicles before he turns or backs up. But truckers sometimes neglect to take proper safety precautions, and serious crashes result.
For your safety, you should be aware that the general rule regarding truck blind spots is that if you cannot see the mirror of the 18-wheeler on the road with you, then the truck driver can’t see you or your vehicle. When a truck driver doesn’t see nearby vehicles, he might negligently merge into their lanes, stop short in front of them, suddenly turn in front of them, or run them off the road. Our Highway 36 truck accident attorneys emphasize that the massive weight of the 18-wheeler means that drivers and passengers in the other vehicles involved in a collision could easily sustain serious injuries or loss of life.
