1 Pedestrian Dead; 1 Injured by Drunk Driver at Galveston, TX Sea Wall | DENENA | POINTS

Fatal DWI accident at the Galveston, TX sea wall: In the early hours of Saturday morning, 29-year-old Felix Dominic Garza, 30, of Texas City fatally injured an Arkansas woman, Amanda Medlock, 34, and critically injured a Texas man, Vincent Jeffus, 36.

A pedestrian flagged down a passing police car to notify the officer about a car that had gone off the Galveston, TX sea wall in the 5400 block with Felix Garza behind the wheel. When the police officer arrived at the 5400 block, he found two victims lying in the street. It appeared that they had been run over by a car.

Ms. Medlock was pronounced dead at the DWI accident scene. Mr. Jeffus was conveyed to the hospital in critical condition. Winesses say that Feliz Garza was driving a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr fast along Seawall Boulevard. Then he struck the pair of pedestrians, skidded out of control, and the Zephyr rolled off the sea wall onto the beach in the Galveston, TX  pedestrian-car accident.

Police stated that Felix Garza refused to take a field sobriety test. So he was required to submit to a blood draw at a local hospital. Felix Garza was held on bonds totally $150,000. Police charged Felix Garza with:

** DWI for the third time (or more);
** Manslaughter; and
** Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The charges may be upgraded, depending upon the toxicology test results.

Tony Denena and Chad Points hold the victims and their family members in their thoughts and prayers at this time. We condole with the loved ones of the Arkansas victim on such a senseless, tragic loss. We send our hopes and prayers for a smooth recovery to the injured Texas man. We also hope that Texas’ strengthened DWI laws can help hold Felix Garza accountable for this terrible tragedy, and keep him off our roads.
