1 Killed 1 Seriously Burned in Explosion and Fire at La Porte TX Plant
An explosion about 8 a.m. on Saturday at the Air Liquide gas cylinder plant in La Porte, TX has led to at least one death. And one person received airlift transport to the hospital in serious condition with severe burns. Reportedly about 20,000 employees were inside the plant at the time that the explosion occurred in the plant at Fairmount Parkway by Bay Area Boulevard.
Investigators were working to discover the cause of the explosion. Our Pasadena personal injury lawyers note that photos of the plant showed a huge hole in the roof, issuing smoke, above where the blast must have occurred. One employee, a technician that was working in the mixing area at the time of the blast, was listed as missing and crews were searching for the worker. One body was found Saturday evening but it’s unclear whether that is the missing worker. The Air Liquide plant mixes nitrogen and carbon dioxide cylinders for the oil and gas industry.
Pasadena, TX had issued a shelter-in-place advisory to residents after the Air Liquide plant explosion and fire. That advisory has since been lifted. La Porte had warned residents it might need to issue such an order, but it appears the city did not need to issue such an advisory. (Source: click2houston.com, 2/9/13)
