Tony Denena

I am a native Houstonian, leaving only for 4 years to attend the University of Texas where I obtained a Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance. After graduation, I got back to Houston as fast as I could. I knew I wanted to practice law from a very young age. One of my parents’ closest friends was an attorney and he told me story after story about his cases that intrigued me and sparked my curiosity about the law.

When I decided to go to law school, I chose a school that prides itself on advocacy and litigation skills.  I knew that I wanted to be in the courtroom.  I did not want to be a transactional attorney so I enrolled at South Texas College of Law in downtown Houston, one of the finest law schools for advocacy in the country.  While at South Texas, I participated in several moot court and mock trial competitions and served on the Board of Advocates

I was very fortunate to begin my legal career working for Howard Nations, one of the preeminent plaintiff attorneys in the country. Working with Mr. Nations, I obtained invaluable knowledge and experience working on very complex personal injury and wrongful death cases, including automotive products liability, 18-wheeler collisions, serious motor vehicle collisions, industrial accidents, as well as commercial and contractual disputes.

I always knew I wanted to have my own law firm so, after several years of practice with Mr. Nations, I partnered with my law school classmate and close friend, Chad Points, to form Denena Points, PC in 2003. Since that time, the firm has focused its practice on representing individuals, families, and business entities in complex personal injury and commercial disputes. We have successfully represented clients against major corporations and insurance companies such as Ford Motor Company, Daimler Chrysler, General Motors, Firestone, Reliant Energy, Bank One, ARE, Inc., Allstate, State Farm, Farmers, Progressive, Geico, and others.

I have obtained countless successful recoveries for my clients through settlements and trials. Together with Chad, We have achieved favorable results in cases involving catastrophic 18-wheeler collisions, serious car, motorcycle, and truck collisions, defective and dangerous products, including vehicles, vehicle components, and children’s toys, maritime and Jones Act injuries, and general personal injury, wrongful death, and commercial matters. Chad and I have represented thousands of clients over our careers.

Texas Board Certified Personal Injury Attorney

Board Certified Attorney

I am Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. This honor is achieved by less than 2% of the licensed attorneys in Texas. To become Board Certified, I had to demonstrate an extensive knowledge of personal injury trial law through my education, experience, and substantial involvement in a wide variety of personal injury matters including auto wrecks, truck wrecks, motorcycle wrecks, and defective products. I had to sit as lead counsel on several cases that were tried to a jury verdict. I had to be evaluated by my peers, including attorneys with whom I have worked, opposing attorneys, and judges. Lastly, I had to pass a day-long written examination administered by the Board. To maintain my Certification, I have to attend personal injury continuing legal education courses to stay current on all of the latest trends and cases involving personal injury trial law.

Superlawyers Rising Star

I have been named a “Rising Star” Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters as published in Texas Monthly magazine, for the years 2011, 2012, and 2013. This recognition is reserved for less than 2.5% of the practicing attorneys in Texas under the age of 40. I have also been named a Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters in 2014.

I have been recognized by H Texas Magazine as a Professional on the Fast Track. I have published “PowerSurfing The Web: The Internet as a Research Tool for Personal Injury Lawyers,” Advanced Personal Injury Course State Bar of Texas 1997 and “Demonstrative Evidence Predicates,” Ultimate Trial Notebook, State Bar of Texas Annual Convention 2000 and have spoken on a variety of internet and evidence topics for the State Bar of Texas. I have also submitted a brief to the Texas Supreme Court on the applicability of the hospital peer review privilege.

Together with my beautiful wife, Andrea, we have three amazing children. They are a handful and keep us very busy at home. Andrea is also a licensed attorney. She volunteers at our church and at our children’s schools. I have coached my children’s sports teams from baseball to basketball and football and thoroughly enjoy working with all kids.

Recently I fought for my neighborhood against the homeowners association’s attempt to wrongfully limit the association’s liability if an individual was injured or killed at our community pool. The association tried to require all homeowners to sign a waiver of liability before granting access to the pool for the summer. I was successful in convincing the association to table the discussion. As a reward, I was nominated to serve on the pool committee to oversee all community pool operations. I served 3 years on the committee.

Andrea and I are active in our church and have participated in adult bible studies to strengthen our faith. Our children have all gone through the Methodist preschool program and Andrea has taught Vacation Bible School for the past several summers.

I am licensed to practice in Texas and in the United States District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts.  I am a member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and Houston Trial Lawyers Association.
